Sydney was a kind-hearted and spirited young man whose smile and presence brought warmth to those around him. He had a deep passion for hockey and proudly played with CIHA, where his love for the game, teamwork, and dedication truly shone. Hockey was more than a sport to Sydney—it was a place where he found joy, friendship, and purpose.
He was the biological son of Kylee Ratt and Sydney Squirrel Sr., and was lovingly raised by Christine Matchewan and Jesse Decoursay, who cared for him as their own and guided him with love and devotion.
Sydney will be remembered by his Kokoms (grandmothers), Nancy Matchewan and Marjorie Freed; his siblings, Kwinton, Markius, Justice, Serenity, Pride, Chanel, Journey, Harmony, Brooklyn, Harlen, and Levi; and his cherished nephew, Cashius. He is also mourned by many extended family members, friends, teammates, and community members who knew and loved him.
Sydney’s spirit will be forever remembered in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
